A Shiny New Australia
I've opened a new account in the forums. (It's been so long I have no clue what my password was and it's only obtainable via a defunct email address.) Am now registered as Daisy Clover.

with ancient parentals the worrying never stops. [Mar. 15th, 2011|03:08 pm]
A Shiny New Australia
So my dad got taken to the hospital again today. He was there about a month ago with pneumonia aggravated by copd and bronchitis. He's since been recovering at home with oxygen therapy. He's supposed to be taking it easy, but he keeps insisting on doing everything like he used to. So I'm not too surprised he's had a relapse. Doesn't make me any less worried though.

And on top of that, Andy is leaving for an art education conference in Seattle tomorrow. And a lot of me wants to ask him not to go, but I feel silly doing that because he's already paid for everything and we really don't have money to just throw away. (it was debatable that the conference was affordable, but we're hoping that networking might do him some good.) I know this. And yet. I still want to say "please don't go, I don't know what's happening with my daddy and I'm scared."

Something I Regret

I regret a lot of things. I regret being self centered. I regret being vain. I regret not standing up for myself more. I regret screwing up all attempts at school and employment. I regret being a fuck up all around.

  A Favorite Birthday

One of my very favorite birthdays was my 29th. I wasn't married yet and Andy came down from Great Barrington to visit me for the weekend. We got a cheap hotel and had fun playing Baltimore tourists---we went to the aquarium and the Visionary Arts Museum. Andy gave me Fiesta Giles for my birthday present. Then we went on a quest for cake. Which mostly consisted of us driving aimlessly around Catonsville going "hey man can I get some caaaaaaake? you got any caaaaaaaaake?" in Cheech and Chong voices, before finally ending up in a coffee shop in Ellicott City and getting huge slabs of chocolate cake.

The next day we went out for Chinese and went to the movies to see Down with Love, which we both loved. It was just a really fun weekend. And (possible tmi) about nine months later, I got another present, my Maddie girl.

My Favorite Memory

One of my favorite parts of childhood were the Christmas Eve parties with my big extended Italian family. We had a traditional fish dinner that started with shrimp soup followed by fried smelts and risotto with calamari and tomato sauce. My mother was in charge of the risotto. Our house would reek of squid for days-- which wasn't too pleasant, but the end result was really good.  As a young kid I mostly just ate the shrimp soup and ate the tomato rice sans calamari. And there was always a huge tray of anise cookies, biscotti, and cannoli for dessert. But the food was the least special part really.

For me, the excitement lay in getting dressed up and going out at night. In being allowed to open one special gift before going. (Usually this was a piece of jewelry which I'd wear with my new dress.) In my aunt's beautiful Christmas tree-- which was covered in all white, handmade ornaments. In being allowed to stay up until midnight. And in a million other undefinable ways.

The party got moved to a week before Christmas and is now a casual day time potluck. It's ok, but it's just not the same anymore.

                  My First Kiss

I was 16 years old and at Mark's house for the first time as his girlfriend. I remember hanging out in his family room for a while, awkwardly sitting next to each other on the couch and making nervous conversation. There was classical music playing on the stereo-- I think it was something by Tchaikovsky.  His parents kept coming in and out of the room---his dad leering at me and giving Mark the thumbs up (and creeping me out), his mom asking if we were sure we didn't want a snack. After a while they gave up and left us alone.

Without warning, he pounced on me, pinning me against the back of the couch. He leaned into me; his breath smelled like Doritos and he had food stuck in his braces. I puckered slightly, touched his lips to mine and....he shoved his slimy tongue down my throat and I gagged.

Later, when my mom came to pick me up I announced to her that "kissing is HIGHLY overrated."

                       My Dreams

I only ever seem to remember my bad dreams. Recurring themes include being in a car with no driver or keys and having it start up on its own, appliances that won't stop going even after you unplug them, having all my teeth fall out, and being lost in a maze where people are calling to me but I can't reach them.

In other words, I have typical anxiety sufferer's dreams and don't really sleep restfully without taking Ativan to numb me first.

What I wore today (seriously? again?)

- Up to about 1 this afternoon I had on a blue night shirt with cows jumping over moons and had my hair in a messy ponytail
- Right now I have on a light blue short sleeved peasant blouse, khaki bermudas, and my hair is in a neat ponytail. I also exchanged my sports bra for an underwire and put on clean underpants. Whee.

      My  Week In Detail

Dudes.  With my meds, I can barely remember a day in its entirety. Let alone a week. Skipping this one.

My Best Friend ( I think this was supposed to be done in the first week)

He's a warm hearted person who'll love me to the end.
